Today we began fresh, clean, and peppy in Round Lake Beach, Illinois. Tonight we sit fully bug sprayed, unshowered, and (somehow) still peppy in Jamestown, North Dakota. 687 Miles. 11 hours. 3 gas stops. 4 states. 2 wild travelers. 1 wild traveler?
Here are some North Dakota sights:
We made it!
There is a buffalo in this picture. I dare you to find him.
This is the ONE bend in the road throughout the entire state.
After 11 hours of travel in our wounded truck we finally arrived to the darling Jamestown Campground. I should take this time to point out that, as of 6pm last night, we were planning to head to Arvilla, ND today. We made a last minute change to the itinerary and ended up here:
Yes, these lovely folks have a flat screen t.v. outside their camper. We have this:
I’m sure the fancy camper people are mocking us, but this is all we need. We’re wild, remember? Once I located the bug spray in our packed to the brim, exploding out the sides, rough and tough, injured, truck everything has been wonderful. We even cooked vegetable chili (thanks, Mom!) in our Jet Boil.
We headed over to THE sight in Jamestown, Frontier Village, featuring the WORLD’S LARGEST BUFFALO. No, it’s not real, much to Matt’s dismay.
Frontier Village was super cool. We went into a historical post office, barber shop, dentist’s office, and Matt even revisited his old stomping grounds.
But, of course, our favorite building was…… the school. We are traveling all the way to Alaska to teach, after all!
So, now we will go to sleep in our teenie weenie tent in our teenie weenie North Dakota town, and do it ALL OVER AGAIN tomorrow. For you. Because you love to read this blog. Oh, and for us. Because we’re wild, and we’re going to Alaska, and I think we might have seen all there is to see here. So in any case, see you in Montana tomorrow!
I found the buffalo; of course, I am a “country girl.” Annie (Dave’s secretary)
Buffalo, dead center down in the gully.
He doesn’t look like his neck hurts . . .
Super!! Thanks for the update! It looks like a cute little town to camp in with your cute little tent. Enjoy your adventure!
